Artist-in-Residence New Jersey State Council on the Arts

May 10, 2014

I am grateful to have been chosen as an Artist-In-Residence for the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. I have been conducting two residencies, one at St. Anthony's High School in Jersey City, NJ and at Rosa Parks High School of the Performing Arts in Paterson, NJ.

For St. Anthony HS I created this Facebook page so we can communicate and share relevent information. My focus is the organic intellectual. These young people are prompted to reimagine their home the way it is evolving, as an artistic hub, within which they can actively participate. I've introduced them to art galleries like Mana Contemporary, local artists who perform nationally like the Jersey City Poetry Slam scene, and theater organizations like Art House Productions.

At Rosa Parks HS I am working with a lab of all young women writers and the drama students. I've created this fantastic blog to document our process, showcase their work, and as a teacher resource. My goal here is to introduce them to new ways of creating written work, theatricalizing all genres of writing, thinking creativly, and being an artist in a larger context like arts and activism, and womynist perspectives.

The Arts-in-Education (AIE) Program is carried out through a partnership between the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and a consortium made up of Arts Horizons and Young Audiences of New Jersey. This program provides New Jersey schools with long-term artist residencies. The program is made possible through state appropriations to the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation.
