Stretch Marks at Legion Arts in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Stretch Marks is about having a baby. It's a one woman show about being born, the circumstances of our birth, what we are born into, and the legacies we inherit. Surpassing the summation of our factual information. This is a play that jams not on the ancient Greek philosopher's favorite cerebral cipher, "What is the meaning of life?", but instead politics, "What does it mean to be alive?"

Florinda Bryant, Paul Bonin-Rodriguez and I were artists in residence at Legion Arts. This was my third time visiting Cedar Rapids with my third show. They've watched me grow up! This is an organization that has supported many artists including myself.

Stretch Marks is a National Performance Network Creation Fund Project co-commissioned by The Center for African And African American Studies in partnership with Legion Arts and the National Performance Network.  NPN and the NPN Creation Fund is sponsored by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Ford Foundation, Nathan Cummings Foundation, Altria, and the National Endowment for the Arts (a federal agency).
